Holiday Skin Prep
If you’re anything like me, you’re probably just sitting at home, thinking that it’s the beginning of December and you’ve still got plenty of time to take care of the holidays. Dec 25? That’s 19 days away! No big! The issue is, if you’re also like me, you’ll inevitably end up getting super stressed out trying to figure out if you’ve missed someone on the need-to-gift list, what you’re gonna bake/cook for the various seasonal parties, what you’re gonna wear, etc. This year, I’ve decided to plan ahead and build in some self care time that will also set me up to tackle all of the above with a glowing, dewy face. Lucky for you, I’ve also decided to share my best quick-fix holiday skin prep with you too. Woo!! More below.
When it comes to holiday skin prep, three goals come to mind – to smooth, hydrate, and brighten. These are easily attainable in three simple steps:
Step 1: Exfoliate
Exfoliation is king when it comes to smoothing out your face. To get rid of dead skin cells, you could use a mechanical or chemical approach. A mechanical approach could involve using a brush that gently scrubs the dead skin off of your face (like a Clarisonic), or a microdermabrasion paste/mask that contains micro beads that you gently rub on your face for about 30 seconds and wash off. The chemical approach may include something like an AHA and/or BHA gel or lotion being incorporated in your daily routine for gentle exfoliation. The latter approach generally supplants using a mechanical approach as you’re already exfoliating daily. Depending on your time crunch, you may select any combination of the above that works best for you. I wouldn’t do the mechanical stuff more than twice a week as your skin will likely feel a bit raw. As always, please pay attention to what your skin is telling you!
nakanit’s holiday skin prep selection: My pick for this category is none other than Skin Inc’s Pure Revival Peel. You apply a thin layer onto your face after you’ve cleansed and dried your face. Wait for a few seconds until it turns milky, then gently massage your face. Your dead skin cells come off very easily and you simply rinse off afterwards. There is no crazy tugging involved, and it’s seriously a miracle product I like to keep in my cabinet for those special events. Priced at $22 CDN for a mini, you can get multiple uses out of it and it works like magic.
Step 2: Hydrate
There are so many hydration products out there that I know it’s really hard to pinpoint just one to use. As with exfoliation, choosing a hydrating product can range from whether you’re looking for immediate effects or a long term solution. If you’re looking to solve an immediate hydration problem, you may consider a face/sheet mask. For the planners out there, you may want to look at a serum, face oil, or a targeted product like hyaluronic acid for your hydration needs.
nakanit’s holiday skin prep selection: My pick for hydration is also from Skin Inc: their Pure Deepsea Hydrating Mask. This product is just as easy to use as their Pure Revival Peel – apply a thin layer onto your clean face, then leave it on. You can leave it on for as long as you like – 30 minutes up to the whole night. It’s so ingenious for lazy people like me. The effects of the mask combined with a good night’s sleep literally gives your skin an upgrade. Every time I use this mask, I am amazed at how supple, plump, and glowing my skin is in the morning. This is a serious must-have for that next holiday party. If you are seriously considering both of my Skin Inc recommendations, you can get both for $38 CDN here.
Step 3: Glow, glow, glow
nakanit’s holiday skin prep selection: If there is a skincare holy grail, my recommendation for this category would be it. I am so excited talking about this product that I don’t even want to introduce you to other alternatives! So behold: Shangpree’s Gold Premium Modeling Mask. For those of you who’ve been following us from the beginning, you already know that I LOVE Shangpree (see my reviews of their other products here and here). So it is no surprise that I’m recommending their face mask here. The product seems a little weird because it comes in two packets that you mix in a bowl. The texture of the mask is, for lack of a better word, goopy. You literally smear the goop all over your face, wait 15-20 minutes for it to harden into a single, rubbery unit, and then peel it off in one go. I am not joking you, this mask is literal gold. Once you’ve peeled off the mask, you’ll find your skin glowing from within. The mask is priced at $20 USD, but in my humble opinion, well worth the price.
Don’t forget to take time out for yourself this holiday season! I hope you find the holiday skin prep helpful and worth your while. Please let me know in the comments if you’ve tried any of the products and if you have your own holiday skin prep!
Until next time,
