Current Skincare Regimens Update and Other News

Now that I’m back from my hiatus, I’ve noticed that our current skincare regimens page is in serious need of an update. So in today’s post, in addition to updating that, I also wanted to give you guys a bit of a life update as well. Lots have happened during my nine month absence from blogging. However, as nakanit had mentioned, this doesn’t mean we were ever absent from obsessing over skincare.

Previous skincare regimen

This was what I (melbatee) had in my daily skincare regimen previously:

I start off with the Cremorlab T.E.N. Cleansing Gel Oil as my first cleanser. Then, I use Sunday Riley’s Ceramic Slip Cleanser as my second cleanser. I then tone with the Mizon AHA & BHA Toner, followed by an all over application of the SK-II Facial Treatment Essence. As I am waiting for the essence to absorb, I pat on Indeed Lab’s Hydraluron serum on my eyelids and underneath my eyes. Immediately after that, I dab Dermalogica’s Intensive Eye Repair on to the same areas around my eyes. Every other night, I then swipe Alpha-H’s Liquid Gold all over my face as my last step. On alternate nights, I end with Mizon’s All-In-One Snail Repair Cream instead (and would have exfoliated with Dermalogica’s Daily Microfoliant after the two cleansing steps and before the toner).

Current skincare regimen

This is what is in my daily skincare regimen now:

As I’ve mentioned before, Sunday Riley’s Ceramic Slip Clay Cleanser is a mainstay in my regimen. I haven’t been able to find a cleanser that works better than this for me yet. Right now, I double cleanse with the Sunday Riley cleanser because I haven’t found an oil cleanser that I absolutely love and want to make a mainstay of yet. So I’m still on the lookout for a first step cleanser.

I have also lost faith in using a toner (despite how nakanit swears by it and often encourages me to use one). So in its place, I’m using the Skin Inc. Pure Serum Mist. I’m also on the lookout for a proper toner and proper essence to add to my regimen.

As I am waiting for the serum mist to absorb in, I pat Drunk Elephant’s T.L.C. Framboos Glycolic Night Serum on to problem areas of my face (typically my t-zone and wherever I am breaking out). As I wait for the glycolic serum to absorb, I pat the J.One Jelly Pack above and below my eyes and other areas where I see fine lines developing. I immediately follow up with Saturday Skin Wide Awake Brightening Eye Cream on the same spots. By then, all the serums will have almost absorbed and so I proceed to seal it all in with Drunk Elephant’s B-Hydra Intensive Hydration Gel on my t-zone and Atoclassic’s Real Tonic Calming Smart Lotion everywhere else. In the mornings, I generously apply Kicho’s Moisturizing Sun Cream in place of the Atoclassic lotion.

So as you can see, the products I use in my skincare regimen has all changed over but one – the Sunday Riley cleanser. This drastic changeover is not because some of the previous products that I used were bad – in fact, some of them are and still remains to be my all star favourite products. However, in the spirit of ever searching for the most optimal skincare regime and in responding to changes in my own skincare needs, I am trying a lot of new products.

Thus, my current regime is a reflection of the new products that I’m trying and the products that are working adequately well. Sometimes, I try new products that I won’t use beyond three to five times, because they just do little to nothing. Those typically don’t make it into my regular regimen. There are a lot of new favourites in this current regimen, and I can’t wait to share those with you in more review posts to come!

Other (life) updates

As I have briefly mentioned in my last post, lots have changed in the nine months that I have been MIA. I moved back to Edmonton for a new job, which also means that I also had to look for a new place to live. We pretty much doubled our living space in our new condo, which also meant looking for new furniture. Furniture shopping, settling into a new home and settling into a new job pretty much kept me preoccupied through to Christmas. In between, nakanit and I snuck in a week long trip to California for a friend’s wedding, some skincare shopping adventures, and California fun. Then, January and February provided recovery time from the holidays as well as some much needed weekend ski trips to the mountains. That pretty much brings me to where we are now – March! I turned 30 this month – a milestone in life and skincare.

In between all of that and still happening (and probably will always be happening it seems) is more trip planning. Last year, nakanit and I each individually did a trip over to Asia, and this year, we’re doing it again! I think we just left our hearts there. nakanit is planning a rendevouz with Japan for September/October of this year. Whereas I’ll be headed over to Korea, Taiwan, and Japan with Bman, his family, and mine! I’ve got a skincare power shopping trip planned for Seoul, thus all the, “I’m still on a lookout for X” statements above. I’ve been holding off because I’m going to be raiding the shops of Seoul in June (and I can’t wait to share all of these adventures with you)!!!

Needless to say, I am beyond excited for the upcoming Asia trip. So that’s my life for the past nine months in a flash. What have you all been up to as of late?

Tell us what you think!
